Did Michelle and her children plant the vegetable garden or did the National Park Service do the work?
I have seen the first lady gloating about how she and her children have built this garden only to have found out later that govt. workers for the National Park Service actually did all the work. Is this true?
JWB, a thousand pounds of produce. Let’s say that garden cost 1 million dollars- with secret service protection and the employment of Federal workers etc. That means the “produce” cost US taxpayers $1,000 per pound to product the lettuce, tomatoes and corn. Would you pay $1,000 per pound for corn?
She was present for a couple of photo ops, and she had some children from local schools helping for the publicity. I think I also saw something on TV about the White House chef using some of the herbs.
But, it’s probably a government run program that required a brand new bureaucracy and a czar to run it. Of course, they would have to appropriate funds to carry out the planting – maybe 10 or 20 million dollars would do it, and they would have to hire a bunch of new people. Those weeds don’t pull themselves.
